Bjorn to Design

Local designer, Bjorn Rüst, took up a last minute challenge laid down by the Indesign team with great success. He created an installation that was located at Lightspace, using back issues of Indesign & DQ magazines, and invited visitors to scrawl a message and use the installation as an impromptu signage board. We'll be posting some of the best messages online and talking to Bjorn about the concept for the installation, so stay tuned... (see more of Bjorn's work www.bjornrust.com)

Re-Issue by Bjorn Rust

As a Product
Re-Issue offers a low energy (low carbon) solution to recycle discarded periodicals. Initially intended as cladding, it became apparent that folding periodicals in this fashion revealed exceptional structural integrity. Re-Issue became an exercise in exploring the flexibility of discarded magazines. Producing a single stool may take just 20mins, two periodicals and four reusable document clips. While a table requires some twelve periodicals and 8-16 document clips (or staples).

As an Installation
Re-Issue was designs for InDesign Publishing and Brisbane InDesign. Installed at Light Space, it aims to alter the perceptions of magazines as expendable, two dimensional and delicate. Assembled over three evenings using reusable document clips and 101
InDesign and roughly 50 DQ magazines.

The Designer
I design to surprise and inspire. I believe in socially responsible, emotionally sustainable concepts with clear semantics and appealing aesthetics. Driven by new materials and processes, as well as new perspectives on existing ones. Drawing on experiences during my travels as much as those gathered in furniture and building design studios in Australia.
