About

Brisbane Indesign is a leading design event bringing over 4000 of the most respected architecture and design professionals together with the best international and local products. It is a unique event that enables the design community to visit leading showrooms in Fortitude Valley and the surrounding suburbs of Brisbane. It also provides an unrivalled opportunity to discover new networking opportunities, sample products and develop ideas and relationships.

A bit of background

Australian design continues to grow and inspire, and nowhere is this more evident than in the state of Queensland. The individual talent and sheer output of new design is testament to the depth and energy of the design culture that has been nurtured in Australia’s sunny state.

Recognising the strength and scope of Queensland design, Indesign saw a need to take the format of Saturday in Design from Sydney and Melbourne and give it a new home, and a new name, in Brisbane.

So in May 2007 the inaugural Brisbane Indesign exploded onto the calendar, bringing together Queensland’s design community for a spectacular celebration of all things design. Architects, designers and members of the community piled into designer showrooms around the suburbs of Brisbane, to enjoy the world-class products on display, some Queensland hospitality and the company of like-minded people.

A sense of community

One of the most inspiring elements the event brought to light was the support network founded within the design community – not only amongst practitioners, participants and members of the wider public, but also from wider bodies such as Arts Queensland. A creative culture such as we see in Brisbane and greater Queensland, can only be sustained with foundational support and assistance from structures – both governmental and private – that can plan into and provide for the future.

The journey continues

The program was such a success for the inaugural event in May 2007, that we were back in 2008 for the second year in a row, and planning Brisbane Indesign well into the future, with the next event scheduled for 2010. Brisbane Indesign will take place every two years, to provide an environment in which to support and nurture Queensland design. We’re looking at ways to create lasting relationships with those that have the same confidence in Queensland design as we do.

We see this as more than just an event. This is a journey of discovery, a design joyride that will excite and inspire.
